My Burger Restaurant Designs

Overview:

Studio M Architects has collaborated extensively with My Burger Group, a fast-casual burger chain known for its burgers, fries, salads, and shakes. Over the course of designing eight locations—and currently working on a ninth—Studio M Architects has helped My Burger establish a distinctive brand identity through fun and highly detailed interior designs. Each restaurant maintains a consistent overall theme while featuring unique elements that reflect the specific location, ensuring that no two venues look exactly alike but all resonate with the brand’s vibrant character.

Project Goals:

  • Brand Consistency with Individuality: Create a cohesive design language that represents My Burger’s brand across all locations while allowing for unique features in each restaurant.
  • Engaging and Fun Atmosphere: Develop an interior environment that is lively, engaging, and reflects the playful nature of the brand.
  • Incorporation of Signature Elements: Utilize specific design motifs such as mustard pouring off the walls, stacks of pickle jars, and custom murals to reinforce brand recognition.
  • Use of Dominant Brand Colors: Emphasize the brand’s dominant orange color in various aspects of the design, including furniture, signage, and architectural details.

Custom Lighting and Furniture: Design bespoke lighting fixtures and seating that enhance the dining experience and contribute to the restaurant’s unique aesthetic.

Design and Implementation:

  • Interior Design Elements:
    • Mustard Wall Feature: Created a dynamic visual of mustard seemingly pouring off the wall, adding a whimsical touch to the dining area.
    • Pickle Jar Displays: Arranged stacks of pickle jars as decorative elements, contributing to the playful theme.
    • Custom Murals: Commissioned artists to produce murals that add color and personality to each location.
    • Banquette Seating: Designed custom banquette seating in various colors, using wood and concrete materials for durability and style.
    • Orange Accents: Incorporated pops of the brand’s dominant orange color throughout the space—in furniture, signage, and an orange soffit—to reinforce brand identity.
  • Lighting Design:
    • Thematic Fixtures: Developed custom lighting fixtures shaped like pickles and street signs, adding character and enhancing the ambiance.
    • Functional and Aesthetic: Ensured that lighting solutions met practical needs while contributing to the overall design theme.
  • Material Selection:
    • Wood and Concrete: Chose robust materials like wood and concrete for furniture and fixtures, balancing aesthetics with functionality.
    • Color Palette: Utilized a vibrant color scheme centered around orange, complemented by other bold hues to create an inviting atmosphere.
  • Location-Specific Adaptations:
    • While maintaining the core design elements, each restaurant features unique adaptations to suit its location, resulting in spaces that are dramatically different yet familiar to patrons.

Challenges:

  • Balancing Consistency and Uniqueness:
    • Needed to create a standardized brand experience across multiple locations while allowing for individual design expressions in each restaurant.
  • Custom Design Implementation:
    • Developing and installing custom features such as unique lighting fixtures and murals required coordination with specialized artisans and suppliers.
  • Material Durability and Maintenance:
    • Selecting materials that withstand high-traffic use without compromising on the bold aesthetic required careful consideration.

Outcome:

The new Boom Island Brewing facility successfully expanded their brewing operations and provided a welcoming taproom that embodies their vision. The open layout accommodates large gatherings while offering intimate seating options. The use of reclaimed river timbers adds unique character to the space, connecting it to Minneapolis’s history. The wall of barrels not only serves as a physical separation between the brewery and taproom but also showcases their emphasis on barrel-aged beers. The flexible menu display system enhances operational efficiency and customer experience. Overall, the project met the client’s goals, creating a space that patrons enjoy and remember.
